B.Sc (MPCs)
Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science
B.Sc (MPCs) is a three-year undergraduate program in Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science. It gives students a rigorous scientific foundation and develops critical thinking, analytical skills and structured problem solving across all three subjects.
In Mathematics, students study algebra, analysis, differential equations and linear algebra, and learn to use mathematical software. Physics covers areas such as electromagnetism, quantum physics and solid state physics, with practical work in the physics lab. In Computer Science, students learn to design and develop programs and computer-based systems in areas such as algorithms, networking, cloud computing and data analytics.
The program also builds effective communication and the ability to work well both individually and in teams. Graduates can go on to an M.Sc, MCA or MBA, are eligible for government examinations, and have excellent opportunities in the software industry as developers, testers, data scientists, database administrators and network specialists, or as researchers in mathematics and physics.
- Critical thinking: apply critical thinking and enhance learning in mathematics, physics and computer science with scientific reasoning and analytical skills.
- Problem solving: think logically and organise tasks into a structured form for problem solving by applying the knowledge of basic science.
- Effective communication: communicate scientific information effectively in written and oral form.
- Individual and team work: function effectively as an individual and as a member or leader in diverse teams.
- Understand the definitions, concepts and theorems of algebra, analysis, differential equations and linear algebra.
- Use mathematical software for professional development.
- Apply logical and analytical skills to model and solve real-life problems.
- Gain sound knowledge of electromagnetism, quantum physics and solid state physics for higher education and research.
- Design and develop programs and computer-based systems in areas such as algorithms, networking, cloud computing, IT and data analytics.
